VNY Quieter Nights Program: GRADE C-
Van Nuys Airport proposed the voluntary QNP earlier this year. While we appreciate the concept and initial effort, we don't believe it’s been supported enough. Since the staff ramped communication up in the last few weeks, though, we're cutting them some slack and giving them a C- for now. We'll continue monitoring its progress.
Nighttime Jet Operators & Helicopters: GRADE F
Between July 5 and August 5, the following jet and helicopter operators chose to continue flying between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM although they been provided information about the voluntary Quieter Nights Program (according to VNY's Manager) and it seems most would have heard about the noise concerns of low-flying aircraft across the Santa Monica Mountains and foothills, given the media coverage of the Task Force. This list is not complete - there are more that were not logged. To our knowledge none of these are medical or emergency related. Although not listed here, LAPD helicopters are also cutting through populated canyons and neighborhoods on non-emergency runs and need to stay over freeways for less impact!
